So a few months ago (6, to be precise), when I sold the Element, I also canceled my account with XM Radio. Loved their content/service, but the new Jeep came with a free year of Sirius, so I had to do what I had to do. ::shrug::
I thought AOL had the all-time record for being sheisty when trying to cancel service. Ohhhh noooooo. Canceling with XM was a gazillion.5 times worse than anything AOL could have dreamed up.
Needless to say, it was an irritating phone call, even with me being direct and having to raise my voice after being direct was getting me nowhere. I think they actually wanted me to get pissed off enough to hang the phone up, or say something bad so they could disconnect me — all without actually closing my account (their ultimate goal).
But I did manage to get my account closed. At least I was 95% certain I did. There was a language barrier, and he kept mumbling something about “six months free”, which I was very clear that I didn’t want. Close the account now, thankyouverymuch.
Skip to tonight. I fire up Quicken and it connects to my banks/credit cards and downloads new transactions. What do I see? A $60.31 transaction from XM. Six months later.
So I naturally wig the frack out. Pissed doesn’t even come close to describing how livid I was. The dogs actually left the room. A few deep breaths later, I decide the best course of action is to skip dealing with the buttheads at XM and just dispute the charge with my VISA company.
90 seconds into the phone call with VISA, after ranting and raving about XM and their shady retentions people (and how I didn’t authorize any charge), the nice lady softly informed me that the transaction XM did with my card was to put a credit for $60.31, not a charge.
Le Sigh.
I got into it the other day with Equifax.. I had their Gold Credit Monitoring service.. somewhere in the fine print it stated “We will renew your service for whatever fee we think up without telling you..” Well, I intially got the service for both Lori and I for something cheap (long story..) like $60… the renewal charge was $140…
So I called them and told them I was not interested.. about 15 minutes of them trying to change my mind via broken English… I had them cancel the service. BUt when I got my CC bill.. they had charged me twice!!! (no refund)
Another call and another 15-30 minutes convincing them they had screwed up and “No” I was not interested in any of their other services.. they refunded me my money.. but guess what? They only refunded the one charge.. so another call… finally fixed (for now
).
