People often write me and ask how I keep my wood floors so clean when I live with a child and a dog, and my answer is that I use a technique called Suffering From a Mental Illness.

The only part I saw was “how i keep my wood” and I started wondering “hmmmm where is this going?”
Hi,
Sorry for commenting on an unrelated topic but I just couldn’t find another way to contact you
I read about your cool Airport Extreme setup on MacRumors and went out bought the new one right away.
I’ve hooked up a drive to it but it still takes me about 3 minutes to transfer 300MB or so. Nothing close to the 30 seconds it takes you.
I have a MacBook Pro and I ran the install cd which I guess is supposed to unlock the /n capabilities built in.
Do you have any idea how I can speed up the wireless file transfer speeds? That’s the whole reason I bought the thing
Thanks!
- Doug
Hey Doug,
My setup was a bit different.
Instead of using the Airport Extreme to share out a USB drive, I had a Mac mini (connected to the Extreme via ethernet) sharing out the drive.
I was able to get GREAT speeds copying files from my MacBook Pro wirelessly (802.11n) thru the Extreme to the mini + USB. I was able to write at about 9MB/s.
I wasn’t able to get great speeds copying to the Extreme + USB. The fastest I was able to write was about 4MB/s.
I really like the new Extreme, but after having had it for about a month now, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for speedy USB transfers.
