One week later…
Oct 10th, 2004 by Jason
The last journal entry was a combination of Jason’s only weekend off for a month, Knob Creek whiskey, me finding out late Friday afternoon that I’d have to work most of the weekend, road head, the Virginia Opera, and the movie “Set It Off”, and honestly, I’ve found no eloquent way to tie all of that together coherently, thus no journal update for the last 8 days.
Regarding Knob Creek whiskey, if the bottles came with a little rear-view mirror that said: “Caution: After drinking our hooch, issues in your relationship brought up by this cracked-out weekend are actually smaller than may appear”, there probably would have been no previous journal entry.
28 hours condensed into a few sentences, as cool as Jason was about everything, he made a few comments towards the end of everything that I felt were manipulative. Even though I’m hypersensitive about anything manipulative, I bit my tounge — this was his weekend off, and it really was sucking. Blah blah blah, work finally finished, we ended watching Set It Off and drinking. During a roomate-smoke-break pause, Jason said something that rubbed me the wrong way, and I went off, which escalated into 20-minutes of action that would have made Steve (the bouncer from the Springer show) proud. After we calmed down, Sean played mediator, and I got to vent about all of the times I’ve bit my tounge over the last six months — mostly because things have changed so much for the better that I didn’t want to be the nit picker, but stuff that had bothered me none-the-less. Jason got to do the same.
For perspective, the previous journal entry was made during the “cooling down” period.
So as happy as I am at how much Jason and I have grown over the last six months, this was a real eye opener that we still don’t have total communication yet. Dont’ get me wrong — it’s 500% better than a year ago, but still in need of a bit more finesse, and I am looking forward to it!
