The Big Entry
May 30th, 2004 by Jason
First and foremost, my sympathies go to my friend Chuck, who had a very good friend pass away this week. My personal feelings on death are almost always contrary to what most think, so I’m usually at a loss as how to best help a friend going thru this.
Cheers to my friend Brad (www.crazyami.com) for having his ex fix the calendar feature on his blog. Brad’s blog only shows the last two or three entries, so unless you’re a daily reader, you need to use the calendar to catch up with his previous posts.
Jeers to Rico for deleting his LiveJournal because he felt bad after his performance at the Garage last weekend. Yeah, I think everyone agrees that it sucked, but to delete two+ years worth of commentary on everything that’s happened in ones life seems senseless. I love his blog and hope that he can do something to get it back.
“DUH SHIT” to my cat Jerry, who’s been a total bitch about going outside for the last week or two. Nothing good ever comes from him going outside, so I rarely let him out, but he was whining so much tonight that I was like “OK DUMBASS, go outside!”, opened the sliding glass door to the backyard, and booted his ass out. 15 minutes later, I calmed down and went looking for him. In our backyard with the Coleman lattern, I could hear him, but not see him. The dumb fuck had scaled our fence and jumped into Pam’s yard (our next-door neighbor). Scaling OUR side of the fence is easy, since it’s the back side of the fence and has a mid-beam. Pam’s side of the fence doesn’t have the mid-beam, so said stupid cat was having great difficulty jumping back into our yard. I watched him try (and fail) to jump the 6ft fence twice — not bad for an old, fat cat, but not solving the problem at hand. Just as I was about to go ask Pam if I could go into her yard to fetch the fucker, he managed to jump up, get his claws stuck at the top of the fence, and pull himself over. Back in “safe territory”, he immediately ran to the sliding glass door and cowared, as if I was going to whack him. Figuring he had scared himself enough that he didn’t need any punishment from me, I let him inside, where he look ed at me like “what?!?!?!” and then hid upstairs.
Jason’s best friend DeAndre is staying with us. Jason and DeAndre went to college at Miami (in Ohio) and were in the same frat. After graduating, DeAndre landed a job traveling around the country (with a partner) where they take kids (k-12) and put on a show — of late, a politically correct version of Hansel and Gretel (where the witch is a vegetarian, which is kinda funny considering DeAndre is too!) Anyhow, it’s been a blast having him here. He came in Wednesday night, and was cool that the fact that I was dog tired Thursday night and Friday night, which I really appreciate. Being on the road most of the time, he really wanted to buy a new iMac, so he, Jason, and I took a trip today to the Apple Store at the Short Pump mall in Richmond. Sure, he could have picked up his iMac at CompUSA in Norfolk, but there’s a Chipotle in Richmond, making the 3hr round-trip drive well worth it.
And no, much to my surprise, I didn’t burst into flames upon entering the store. I’m actually quite curious about Macs, and considering buying one to get some experience with.
Work has been a major cluster-fuck this week. I usually not working on any project, but this week, I have THREE HUGE projects, and all had issues — to the point where multiple people were lining up at my cube to get my help — and these weren’t minor issues, either. Le Sigh. I think I got to work around 8’sh all week and didn’t get to leave until 7’sh most nights. I know my friend Chuck is saying “WHATEVER”, since he’s used to those hours, but this is major unusual for me. I don’t mind putting in the extra hours to get the work done, but it’s wearing me down. It shouldn’t last too much longer, and the folks I’m working with on the various projects are being cool because they know I’m spread super thin on other projects, but … damn!
Ran for a minute/walked for two minutes (for a total of 30 minutes each workout) twice the last 3 days. I’m sore, but it feels good. Rico and I go to Chicago in July, and I’d like to knock a few pounds off before we go. We’ll see how it goes. ![]()
