I HATE CHANGE!
Mar 24th, 2004 by Jason
Early last year (’03), we switched to DirecTV (well, we switched to the almighty DirecTiVo, and that requires DirecTV), and sometime shortly thereafter, this odd BBC show called “Changing Rooms” started appearing on the “Now Playing” list.
Normally I’m not a big fan of BBC shows (mostly because I can’t understand half of what they’re saying), but this was the first “here is 700 pounds and a professional designer, now go redecorate your friend house” show I’d ever seen, and I kinda liked it. OK — I really liked it.
Well, I eventually was introduced to ‘Trading Spaces’. In addition to having a sexier carpenter, the show was a full hour, and well, … I (Mr. Interior Designer Ignorant) got more out of it because they did American style stuff in American type houses instead of UK castles and rowhouses. So I kinda slacked off on watching Changing Rooms… until last night.
Having been completely involved with doinking around with this blog software (I’m waiting for my “I (HEART) MOVABLETYPE” bumper sticker to arrive), I noticed that my better half had abandoned his computer and was sitting on the couch watching some DTiVo. I went to join him, and pointing out that it was the premiere episode of the new season, he queued up Changing Rooms.
Gone was Carol Smillie, … Lawrence is now the new host. My guess is that he did so many crazy designs that upset people that ‘host’ was the only safe job that they could give him.
Gone is the part where the couples take out the old furniture and stuff. The show now starts with the designers “unveiling” the colors of the paint to the unsuspecting couples.
Added is a push-up bra for Anna Ryder Richardson. Apparently a good designer with ta-ta’s in her face makes a better designer.
Added is a new designer: Gordon Whistance. He’s very cute, and I can understand him when he speaks, so no gripes here.
Added is modern Top 40’sh music. Very very rarely do they play the old “do-dah-do-dah-do-do” music that “is” Changing Rooms.
THAT’S TOO MANY CHANGES!
I was going to tie this in with a rant about how much “sex” they’ve added to the show, and how I don’t approve, but when I just reread the beginning of this entry, I noticed that I pointed out that Trading Space’s carpenter is sexier than Changing Room’s, and that Gordon is very cute. So apparently sex does matter a bit, and not wanting to be too hypocritical so early in my blogging experience, I guess I’ll have to tolerate the female designers newly emphasised ta’s, and the top 40 music. ![]()
hmm… we started watching C.R. in ‘02…
LOL - ‘it seems like just yesterday’, so I assumed that since we are in ‘04, it must have been ‘03.
‘02?
Lordy lordy lordy!
