Adding HMO to DTiVo (DirecTV TiVo)
Jan 21st, 2004 by Jason
To enable HMO (Home Media Option) and MRV (multi-room viewing) on my DirecTV TiVo (DTiVo), I followed the guide that is mentioned in the first post of this thread:

The guide walks you through installing the TiVo software from a regular TiVo onto a new hard drive that you’ll put into your DTiVo.
The guide assumes that you know a few basic LINUX commands and principals (i.e. cp, mv, rm, mkdir, how to mount a drive, what a kernel is) and have a basic understanding of how the bowels of a DTiVo work (i.e. monte, RID, killhdinitrd, etc). Then again, all of the commands that you need to type are listed verbatim in the guide, so …
Fair warning: the people who frequent the site that hosts this guide (dealdatabase) expect that everyone puts in some legwork before they ask questions. If you run into a problem following this guide, it’s basically up to you to do the research on dealdatabase to see where you messed up. You’re very unlikely to get a reply to a post that says “I followed this guide and now my DTiVo doesn’t work –HELP”.
Feel free to post any basic questions (as a comment) below and I’ll reply as I can.
