Carmina Burana

Apr 26th, 2007 by Jason

Forgot to mention that last weekend we caught the Virginia Symphony Orchestra + the Virginia Symphony Chorus’s performance of Carmina Burana. If that name doesn’t ring a bell, I still bet you’ve heard part of it. Click here for a quick sample. Told you. ;)

The music was pretty swell. 60% of it gave me goosebumps, and 40% of it I could have slept through. The fact that the conductor that I have a total school-boy crush on was literally jumping (both feet in the air) through the parts I loved really didn’t help that whole crush thing any. Oye. (FWIW, the photos on her webpage do her little justice. You’ve got to see her on stage, really!)

Oh, and these two old guys sat behind us, literally bitching about anything and everything the entire time music wasn’t playing. Fortunately for them, they shut the hell up when the music started, sparing them the wrath of Jason2 and Scott. After the intermission, Scott described them to the tee by asking “Remember the Muppets?” :) Yay for bitchy red-headed friends from NJ!

When someone does their job so well that it makes you swoon – even when they’re not of the right age, sex, orientation or even species for you, then they have truely found their calling.

(I just noticed that you had “Red Lobster’s Cheddar Biscuits” in the Del.icio.us side bar – you should have asked me for the recipe!)

Tolo, awesome thought about how to tell when one has found their calling. I’d like to think I’ve found mine, but I don’t think I’ve made anyone swoon lately. heh

RE: the cheddar biscuits, I’d almost kill to find the recipe for The Old Fashion Spaghetti Factory’s pesto salad dressing and their white clam sauce. Or better yet, to somehow convince them to build one in our neck of the woods….

Well, cooking up some dressing tonight, but hold off on the rest til tomorrow. Looks like there’s a 24-hour flavor melding clause in that there recipe.

I was going to declare the Pesto Dressing recipe bogus before you even started, seeing as how none of the ingredients were pesto, then I remembered what basil tastes like.

    I’m so special. :)

Brad, regarding the muppets, it’s amazing what Scott’s twisted mind comes up with sometimes. Thankfully it wasn’t a Transformer reference, because I so wouldn’t have gotten it. (And proudly so). [ducking]
