OK, now have an extra virgin (mwaaah) RID DTiVo on 3.1 that I can hack with.

Next issue: finding the time.

FWIW, a few folks at TCF have apparently gone from 3.1 to 4.0 w/o losing any of their recordings, which is what I expected.

If I can get it to work, I'll document all of the steps. :)<!-- X-spaminator-strike: whitelist, -3 --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: IP check --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: email check --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: author check --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: author url --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: comment body --><!-- X-spaminator-strike: url dashes, 1 -->

That would be cool.. Of course it sounds like with the 6.1 coming, that HMO/MRV may be a supported feature in 3-6 months but you never know..

I would just like to be able to move shows between the boxes, so I can put larger drives in without loosing shows. (I could just keep the old HDs, but then it is a pain to get to/watch the shows.)<!-- X-spaminator-strike: whitelist, -3 --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: IP check --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: email check --><!-- X-spaminator-strike: empty field - author url, 1 --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: author url --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: comment body -->

From what I've read, yes.

In a nutshell, you hack the original TiVo drive (using your PC) so that basic networking is enabled, then push across the software upgrade slices. The slices are supposed to upgrade any version of TiVo to 4.0.1b

I think I'll swing by CircuitCity today and pick up another DTiVo box that I can hack on w/o fear of being lynched by our housemates. :)<!-- X-spaminator-strike: whitelist, -3 --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: IP check --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: email check --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: author url --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: comment body --><!-- X-spaminator-strike: url dashes, 1 -->

Having not done any of the research I thought I would ask if there is a way in the 4.0 upgrade process to keep existing 3.x recordings... Do you know?<!-- X-spaminator-strike: whitelist, -3 --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: IP check --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: email check --><!-- X-spaminator-strike: empty field - author url, 1 --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: author url --><!-- X-spaminator-passed: comment body -->
