Back to school

(Yay for spaghetti hurricane models!)
I’m not sure what happened to the training budget at work, but apparently there’s a lot more money than thought, so I get to take a week-long Microsoft SQL database class (in town) this month and a week-long Oracle database class (in Reston, VA) at the end of October. w00t
I love learning new stuff, and getting out of real work for a week isn’t bad, much less two weeks. Now if I just had 10 more weeks of training this year, I’d feel like CM.
Borrowed a cool cable stripper/crimper from a friend at work that’ll make it a cinch to finish putting the ends on the wires (from this weekends project). Also picked up some wood that’ll make a floor in the attic, which is the perfect spot for all of our junk in the spare bedroom that needs to get cleared out before Ian moves in. So much for swearing that I’d never go back into that oven again, although it’s a lot less hot outside today than it was last weekend!
i wish they’d use oracle at lincoln center. I’m actually trained in oracle and oracle forms. Alas, they can’t afford the half mil or whatever it is to get an oracle database installed.
You lucky bitch.
Oracle + Oracle Forms trained?! Very nice! And yeah, it’s expensive. Do you know how many truckloads of $1 Peeps we have to sell each year to afford to keep our Oracle maintenance licenses? LOL
What do you guys use at Lincoln Center? I’m very pro mySQL (which is available for free without support, or for a very modest price with support), but I haven’t heard about any big sites running it.
we actually use inmagic which has the benefit of built-in form and web form capabilities (which produce hideous code which I now go in and edit into maintainable shape) and allows for multi entries per field, which is rather delightful. It’s nowhere near as powerful as Oracle, obviously, but is quite lovely for what it does. The documentation is also sensible, which helps.
