Bonnie + Charlie

This is getting crazy! We’ve already been deluged with 2x normal rainfall in July (11″), and now Bonnie + Charlie are supposed to bring 4-8 more inches to the area. I never thought *I’d* dread seeing 8″. The ground has been like chocolate pudding for weeks now, so if there’s any wind with this “event”, trees are going to fall left and right. On the plus side, I haven’t had a chance to clean the underside of the Jeep since we took it on the beach last weekend. Nothing removes salt/sand from your vehnicle like barreling thru 2ft+ deep puddles at 30mph!
So yesterday I moved all of the Linux stuff from Red Hat 9.0 to Fedora Core 2 (Windows folks — think NT 4.0 to Win2K) with the hardest part being the 15 minutes it took to figure out that the IMAP package in RH9 had been replaced by a package called Dovecot in FC2. I was also able to setup a tunnel via SSH from work, which means I can use Outlook 2003 (yeah baby — no more web interface for me) even though the firewall at work normally prevents that. I’m starting to like Linux more and more again — maybe I should finish up my MCDBA certificate and then think about Red Hat certification?
OK, back to work. For the second day in a row I might actually get some done. (Cox Internet went down for everyone in Hampton Roads yesterday for a few hours, so I had no other choice yesterday). heh heh
i have to say you’d a much easier time with all this configuration nonsense if you’d switch to OSX, with a rock-solid unix kernal. is that the right word, kernal? I have no idea, since I’ve never had to fix it.
The thing I like about Linux over Unix, Mac OS and Windows is that it’s royalty free.
The price of running a legal copy is simply taking the time to learn it. I think that’s fair.
