“A civil union, partnership contract or other arrangement between persons of the same sex purporting to bestow the privileges or obligations of marriage is prohibited. Any such civil union, partnership contract or other arrangement entered into by persons of the same sex in another state or jurisdiction shall be void in all respects in Virginia and any contractual rights created thereby shall be void and unenforceable.”

Hmm. I don’t know how I feel about this. On one hand, I think as long as you love someone and are with them, it doesn’t matter if you are married or not. I do see the arguement that a couple should be entitled to get benefits, have rights such as power of attorney, etc. if they are indeed a long term couple.
I also feel that if you don’t like the rules of a certain state, then you are free to pick up and move to another. But again I do see the arguement that one state can been a seed of hate that can spread their ideas on laws to other states throughout the country.
And on the boycott. I remember a while back people going on and on about “Boycott France” when they didn’t support Bush’s war on terrorism. It personally didn’t make me shy away from brie and Grey Goose. I don’t recall any news of how its hurting France’s economy because we stopped buying their wine and cheese.
France gets revenue from the other 191 countries in the world (besides the US and itself) in the same way that the state of Virginia gets revenue from its estimated 6.3 million heterosexual residents. Boycotts are great, but I see this one going the way of the Grueyre haters - nowhere.
