Oy, the Kitchen!
Apr 24th, 2004 by Jason
Woke up around 10:30 this morning – not bad for a Saturday.
To my credit, it was still rather dark outside from being overcast.
Did some basic cleaning, which turned into running the Dyson (once Jason woke up), which lead to steam cleaning the floors downstairs, which eventually turned into lunch. As Jason and I ate our tuna fish sandwiches at our computer desks in the back of the house (the carpet up front was still wet), I saw him cast a depressing gaze at the mess that we call our kitchen. He quickly followed with “we should have never done that”.
One one level I totally agreed with him. We ripped it down (with glee, might I add – and a big helping hand for Chuck) in November and haven’t done anything with it since. Looking at what needs to be done, it seems overwhelming: moving major electrical wires, lots of drywall, removing the existing flooring and putting a new one in, adding new electrical outlets, etc.
But on the other hand, we’re notorious for “being bored – there’s nothing to do” on weeknights. 5 months later, there really is no good reason for us having done nothing.
So I’m going to take the big list of things that need to be done, organize them into what needs to be done first, and break them down into baby-steps. I think once we see smaller tasks that can easily be done (like ripping up the old linoleum off of the floor), the project won’t seem so overwhelming.
Wish us luck!
